Waves Junior Surf Academy (6-16yrs)

From April through to Christmas we run a variety of surf clubs for local children of all abilities from 6 – 16yrs including those who have never surfed before to those who surf at competition level.
Current price is just £6.50 per 2 hour lesson payable in advance in blocks of school terms.

Ripples (6-9yrs)

The emphasis is on having fun whilst learning. With the younger / less experienced surfers we concentrate on safety, good basic technique and building confidence.

Beginners (10-14yrs)

Our beginners have an introduction to surfing and beach safety.

Intermediate (10-16yrs)

Our improvers and intermediates learn more technical aspects and build on their knowledge and understanding of surfing, the sea and beach safety.

Advanced (10-16yrs)

The more advanced groms receive video analysis, competition training and are encouraged to push their abilities within a safe coaching environment.

We also work with Schools in the area through the Local Education Authority.

St Merryn School

We are actively involved teaching surfing to children in St. Merryn School. An innovative scheme launched for 2009 saw St. Merryn School being one of the only primary schools in the area to teach surfing as part of its school swimming curriculum. The swimming was carried out at Newquay Waterworld whilst the strongest swimmers were given the opportunity to try surfing with Waves Surf School

The aim is to enable pupils to progress with their swimming and learn about water safety whilst taking pleasure from their local environment. This took place in two blocks during the year, September & May, the summer block preparing children for safe fun on the beach and in the sea during the summer. The week was a great success and the progression of the students during the course of the week was remarkable. We look forward to continuing the scheme through 2010.

Extended Services After School Surfing Scheme

Waves Surf School provided tuition to a group of 16 pupils from a selection of primary schools in the locality in two blocks during the summer and autumn terms.  St. Merryn, St.Breock, St. Issey and Padstow Schools all participated with great success. Organised through the Schools Extended Services, Waves provided two blocks of 6 weekly lessons after school. The scheme was very successful especially as the pupils were randomly selected and it provided a taste of surfing to many children who may have never had the opportunity. We were looking forward to continuing the scheme through 2010 however due to the withdrawal of necessary funding this scheme is on hold for the time being.
